Review Wednesday: Holiday Edition

To give everyone a little preview of what to expect in the new year, TheLordJames has created a series of blogs on great holiday gift ideas! These blogs are a little preview of what you can expect from The Lord's Lounge coming this new year to our blog!

As Christmas 2017 approaches fast we bring to think of gift ideas for our friends and family. For the movie goers this is my personal three recommendations for 2017.

The Lego Batman Movie
Using 3D Animation, The Lego Batman Movie recreates Gotham City in a beautifully dark and blockly world made of Lego.  The story of a lonely Bruce Wayne/Batman (voiced by Will Arnett) and his struggle to be close with anyone including being unable commit to having The Joker (voiced by Zach Galifianakis) as his arch enemy. When Wayne accidentally adopts orphan Dick Grayson (voiced by Michael Cera) Batman begins to learn what it is like to be apart of a family again while Joker begins his largest attack of Gotham.

This is a hilarious imagining to Batman that the whole family can enjoy. It makes fun of itself in a way that creates a nostalgic feeling for older Batman fans to enjoy without sacrificing anything to newer fans. It has a solid plot and beautiful animation.

The Lego Batman Movie was released on DVD, Blu Ray, and Digital Download on June 13th.

Beauty and the Beast
This Live Action remake of the 1991 animated classic by the same name is amazing. It stays true to the Disney classic story of Belle (Emma Watson) and she is taken prisoner by the Beast (Dan Stevens). This retelling keeps the original 1991 score while adding several new numbers. If you are a fan of the original Disney’s Beauty and the Beast I would highly recommend adding this live action retelling to your collection. It is enjoyable for the whole family.

Beauty and the Beast was  released on DVD, Blu Ray, and Digital Download on June 6th

Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues with Spider-Man: Homecoming and takes a spin from the traditional Spider-Man origin story allowing you to rediscover this amazing (pun intended) superhero. The movie assumes you know the basic Spider-Man origin and are caught up with the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe instalments. It then expands on both stories by sending Peter Parker (Tom Holland) to high school where he tries to balance the life of a superhero and a high schooler in New York City. Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) tries to keep tabs on Peter following the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War and tries to mentor Parker while helping him conceal his identity as Spider-Man and protecting the Avengers as a whole. Meanwhile, Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) begins selling  weapons made from Chitauri technology he stole from the US Government after his salvaging company was snuffed by Department of Damage Control (DODC), a partnership between the US Government and Stark following the Battle of New York from Avengers (2012). Tommes grows more aggressive and he transforms into Vulture. Parker believes he must prove himself worthy as an Avenger and decides to go after Vulture against Starks wishes.

Spider-Man: Homecoming brilliantly captures what it would be like for a millennial teenager in Parker's situation. This is the perfect Spider-Man's movie if you have a basic understanding of Spider-Man origin and the MCU. This movie doesn't insult its viewers and has the perfect mix of lightheartedness and seriousness when needed. I rarely see movies multiple times in theatre, but I saw this one twice on opening weekend.
