New Paint by Numbers (Review / Information)

I posted a few paints by numbers in my Throw Back Thursday posts and today I have another. This isn't really a throwback, I just recently painted this one as a Christmas present for 2020 but I wanted to share it and the process I went through with you guys. So this one is called the LIUDAO DIY Oil Painting for Adults Kids Paint by Number Kit Digital Oil Painting on Canvas Horses Animal 16 x 20 Inches (Without Frame). Now I must confess that I didn't read the title, I didn't read the description. I was just excited to find one with horses, I bought it right away. Now I have never painted on a canvas before. I have never done paint by numbers like this, and I have no idea how to frame them. But we are still going to try it! Now, this kit came with a lot of stuff to make it even easier.

As you can see it came with instructions. Which were pretty straight forward, it talked about making sure to clean the brushes, and making sure the lids were snapped shut on the paints. That type of thing. Just the basic instructions for any paint by numbers. I noticed, and I am so happy, that they don't have any mixing involved. Some paint by numbers you have to mix your own colours using two colours they give. And that is such a tricky thing. You have to mix enough paint to do all the mixed numbers and when you miss one (and you always miss some), you have to try to mix the right combination to make the same colour. It can be very hard to do.

Along with instructions they sent a paper printout of the pattern, this is in case you paint over a number and you forget to do the whole thing or something like that. I don't see any in this one but in some paint by numbers need these more than others. This comes in handy when there are small sections, they will have arrows pointing to the area, and they sometimes get painted over. It also comes with a magnifying square. I don't really see the need for it with this one, but again some have small sections that you can't see the numbers on or even if you are painting in bad lighting it can be hard to see where the lines are, so it could come in handy. It also comes with three paintbrushes. They are pretty good brushes, there is one larger one and two smaller ones. If you do a lot of painting, I suggest buying better brushes that are more to your liking. I have a very small one with a small tip to do the smaller sections that I love. I always end up cutting up the brushes they send because I find they are never small enough. But you can buy brushes at the Dollar Store and experiment with them and see what works best. It also came with parts that you can add to the back of a canvas frame to hang it up.

And finally the paints. You can see in the photos there are 24 colours. Now sometimes the colours get thick. This could just be because they got cold or because they have been sitting around for a while. You will know if this is the case when you open the little pot. They usually will be stringy or you will notice a large amount on the cap. What I do is I dip my brush in my water, and then mix the paint together. This may be all it needs to loosen up. Also, I do this while I paint in I feel it needs it, however, I wipe some of the water off first if I am actually painting at the time.

So here is what it looks like with nothing on it. You will notice the creases on it. It came folded up like that. The instructions said to iron it out and that it should be fine. Surprise surprise, they didn't come out even after ironing for a while. So this is the best I could get it. But it should be fine.

Below is the finished product. It was fun to paint for sure. In the beginning, I was very worried about it. I was concerned it wouldn't come out properly that it would just look terrible. But I think most paints by numbers go through that and then once you add more and more to it, it starts to take shape. If you want to see the day by day process I will upload those photos to our Instagram page!

Throwback Thursday - Paint by Numbers - Frogs (UPDATE - Blogger Post!)

This post had been in my drafts on Blogger for a while and I never published it for a few reasons. Mostly because by the time I came to publish it, the place I had bought the paint by numbers from wasn't selling it anymore. So here is the link, you can check it yourself. Even now as I write this it still wasn't back in stock. But you can get them to email you when it does come back (if it does come back) or you could possibly find it somewhere else (on Amazon or directly from the manufacturer). It turned out amazing if I do say so myself. I really liked it, it wasn't too hard to paint, and it took me the exact same number of days as the Lakeside Cabin did.

Throwback Thursday - More Blog Posts

Re-share from (2020). Amyl Creations is going to be sharing some of the products she loved and she is sharing updates on them so you can judge for yourself!

Before starting this website and blog, I had a blog on blogger. I would talk about Arts and Crafts obviously and about some of the products I would buy. This was before I got into most of the things I blog about and even sell now. I was just learning how to crochet when I started that blog and thought others would maybe benefit from seeing what I learned as I grew my skills in the crochet world. And that's really what I thought I would stick to. I thought I would learn more Stitches and Patterns and I would just blog all the time about all the wonderful new things I could do. And I was wrong.

After a while, life just got in the way and I felt a need to blog every day, and yet I didn't really have anything to say. Kind of like what happened with this blog after the first year and a bit. That's why I took a break and really decided to find more worth talking about. One of the things I did there, that I kind of carried over here in the form of Reviews was an "Amazon Addiction" post. And I would write about the stuff I bought from Amazon or that I was looking to get or had added to my wish list and that would basically be the end of it.

So now I have about 50 blog posts over on blogger that are just sitting in my drafts. Once I started blogging here I moved this blog over there and just unpublished everything I previously had. (I also ended up posting things here that I used to have posts of so that I could save them somewhere and share them at the same time). So I decided to update those posts and share them here. Maybe they will be useful, maybe not.

So you can look forward to seeing more about other things also, hopefully. Most of the old posts I had were crochet related, but some of them weren't. Some, like I said were about shopping and just stuff like that. So I am going to go through my drafts and my website and see which would be nice to share and hopefully I can squeeze some of them in!

Paint By Numbers - Lakeside Cabin (UPDATE)

My amazon addiction is now in overdrive with Christmas coming! The first thing I ordered and received was a paint by numbers kit called Lakeside Cabin.

I have loved Paint by Numbers since I was a child so to find more adult/advanced versions was a great thing for me. Unfortunately, they are really hard to find in stores and hard to find online at a good price. This one was $10.00 (CAN) it was sold by Amazon.ca so it would have shipped for free if my total had been over $25. (It was not so it cost me a little over $6.00 for shipping.)

It's a beautiful picture and hopefully its fun and easy to paint!

This was very fun to paint but not as easy as I thought it would be. It took me a total of 8 days (spread out) to finish and I worked for a couple of hours on it at a time. This one was one that you had to mix colours. That was time-consuming and you really had to play around with it to make sure you got close to the same shade as before if you didn't get all the numbers in one shot. But I do love the way it turned out.

You can find this photo and other Paint by Number Paintings for sale on our website or our Facebook Page.

Mambi Specialty Cardstock Pad (Me & My Big Ideas) 12 x 12

Today we are talking about Mambi Specialty Cardstock Pad! They are "wedding themed" and are very nice. Some are normal papers and some have interesting things about them (some are foiled, some are transparent). They are a very nice booklet to buy (they come with doubles of course). And they would work with most wedding scrapbooks. They sell for $22.39 (CAN)  and because they are sold through Amazon, with an order over $35 they shipped for free.

Me and My Big Ideas - Friends Stickers

Even though these were "Friend Stickers" I bought them for my wedding scrapbook projects. They have beautiful stickers all transparent and they can be put right on a picture also if you wish. They have nice sayings like, "I love you to the Moon and back" or "Enjoy this moment". They would work very well for a few different uses. They also come with a page of letters. (You can shop around for better prices, I got these for $7.99 CAN and they shipped for free.)

K & Company Diecut Mat Pad

These aren't needed but they could add a nice border to a picture and spice up a plain page. They would fit a 4 x 6 photo comfortably or smaller if you want to show off more of the mat. They are double sided and come three the same so you can use both sides if you want. This is a great option because if you don't like the colour of one side you can use the other side. They are very nice and the colours are a little dark but I don't think many people will find they dislike both sides. I paid $6.99 (CAN) for them plus free shipping with orders over $25 (CAN) through amazon.

Wednesday Review - Me and My Big Ideas Letter Stickers

As "scrapbookers" may know you can never have too many stickers, especially Letters. Letters are a big part of scrapbooking and they have multiple uses of course. And they don't have a dominate theme either. Usually they come in different colours which can work with multiple projects. Example: pink can be used in certain wedding themes and in baby albums. They sell for $4.00 (CAN) and ship for free from Amazon (on ordered over a certain price). This certain set comes in different colours you can pick which ones you want. They are five pages of letters and numbers.

Me and My Big Ideas - Lacey Charm Album

I usually buy albums in person but I found it is cheaper sometimes to order them online. At a craft store like Michael's the albums can go for $40.00 (CAN) if not more I've also bought some albums at "Dollar Stores" or variety stories for about half the price but that is still just the book. I found some wonderful books on amazon including this one. For just $34.99 (CAN plus free shipping), I got the beautiful album, 20 pages (12 x 12), three sheets of stickers and a spool of black lace. These sheets are designed very nicely (with a lace look to most of them) and there is enough to fill up the album. In my experience most scrapbooking sheets with designs on them are at least $2.00 if not more so for the price this is a good buy.

Banana Erasers

I love office supplies like pens, pencils, erasers, things like that and anything in a cute shape or a unique look to it really catches my attention. These erasers were adorable and I couldn't pass them up. They were only $1.85 (CAN) when I bought them and the shipping was free. They took a little while to come in but when they finally arrived they were in good condition.

K and Company Classic Wedding Scrapbook Kit (12 x 12)

As I said in a previous post scrapbooks can get expensive. At Michael's the cheapest you can find would be $30.00 dollars give or take unless there is a really good sale or you have a coupon. I one was gifted a scrapbook that cost close to $50.00 so they can get really expensive. The paper can get expensive also, even at a "variety store" they cost at least $1.50 each with the books being around $20.00 and stickers anywhere from $2.00 - $5.00. So this kit for around $33.25 is a good deal. It comes with the book, 12 pages, and four pages of stickers. And they are all very beautiful.

Natural Homemade Lip Balm (Book)

This is another book I got free. I had it on my wish list and check back in and it was free one day so I got it and added it to my kindle! I recommend doing this for books you'd like to see or read but don't want to pay too much for it. I do this with Homemade things mostly because I want to try making stuff but not sure if I will like it or ever get around too it since some can be expensive.

Antique Bronze Cable Link Chains (12 pcs)

These chains were another cheap thing to help finish off a pre-paid credit card I had. For $1.98 9 (CAN) there are 12 chains and you can add whatever you want to them to make them a necklace. They are very light but it feels like they can put up with everyday life and not break too easily. Mine shipped for free, now they ship for $3.99 (CAN) but I would say it is worth it. (They are also available in silver.)

Jewelry Beads

These beads I ordered together so I will just make one post for them. I bought them with the same purpose in mind to try making my own jewelry. I loved doing it as a kid with just the simple kits they offer children. So I figured why not try it as an adult too. These beads look very beautiful and they were cheap for a string of them. First I ordered Silver Plated Stardust Sparkle Round Beads (50) they were only $1.70 (CAN) when I bought them plus free shipping, they still ship for free but are $1.82 (CAN) now. Then I ordered these Pink Lampwork Glass Beads (10) for $2.69 (CAN) plus free shipping. They may seem expensive but they are very beautiful and for glass beads they aren't that bad.

Simple Stories Wedding Stickers

As I posted before, for a few weddings I have this year I am making scrapbooks for the couple. For this I am ordering a lot of stuff online (and not just from Amazon). One of these things is stickers. Lots and lots of stickers. I picked these because they have the letters in them and some nice themed stickers for weddings. I paid $9.87 CAN and it shipped for free at this moment they are $6.48 CAN and $3.99 shipping so a little more expensive but not too much.
