Getting Started - Following Up on the Layouts

Yesterday we shared the layouts for the blankets. And today we are going to take a better look at those. If you are crocheting them all this is an important post to read. Those outlines are good guidelines but they mostly apply to anyone doing just the one project. It is to show them the center of any blanket so they can choose which graphs to crochet. For anyone doing the Ultimate Crochet Along those won't really apply exactly because you have to crochet all the graphs.

What we shared yesterday is also the layouts for the first three blankets created in this Ultimate Crochet Along. Now we will be sure to post those layouts again when the time comes (after the graphs have been published) so no one misses anything. But we wanted to take a closer look at them today and really highlight what we are going to do. First, we have layout one. This layout is sort of like a windowpane, it has the four sections all equal and makes a rectangle. The example layout has four graphs that are 20 x 35 however for the Ultimate Crochet Along we are going to wait and use the 20 x 40 graphs for these. (Either way it doesn't matter so if you are only making one blanket you can go ahead and use the 20 x 35 graphs just as easily. However, we have other plans for those graphs in this Ultimate Crochet Along adventure.) Obviously, a 40 x 80 blanket would not be big enough to use as a blanket. So we are going to add to this blanket.

Here is where creativity comes in. You can border each graph and then sew them together or you can simply sew them together first. Either way, once they are together you want to border the whole thing with a half double crochet border. You want to keep this mentality for all three of these blankets. (These first three are going to grow via the borders we add, the next three will be different.)

Blanket two (layout two) is four graphs in a row. again this isn't a blanket it is so small. But again we are going to add a border to it and help it grow. Layout three or blanket three is completely different though. It is four large graphs together. These are going to be 100 x 70 so it would be a perfect size for a small child and if you border all the graphs before adding them, it may be a perfect throw for the couch. This one we are going to play with a little and see what suits our purpose the best. (NOTE: We will have more information and such when it comes time to make the blanket.)

So to wrap everything up, you can crochet these graphs in any stitch or style you want. Just keep in mind that you need to keep the sets together. (For us a set is a group of graphs, we try to release a set all at the same time - same month.) You will need one set of four graphs measuring 20 x 40 (either all of one character or one character each) for blanket one and two. And you will need four scene graphs (again either one of each character or of all the same character). As long as you remember which graphs are going together and crochet them the same, everything will work out perfectly.
