Typically when we think of salads, we think of them as side dishes or something that simply isn't filling. However, this all depends on what you add to it. Typically, we see Grilled Chicken added to salads to make them the main dishes. However, you can also add Steak Strips to a salad, or thin Pork Medalions. And this can be to any salad not just green salads.
This is a Quinoa salad with halved tomatoes, chopped green onions, and cubed Avocado. The dressing is a little lemon juice, salt and pepper, and possibly a little olive oil. And to this, I added some sliced pork. It was delicious and very filling and the flavours went well together.
The same idea goes with Shrimp also. If you have a salad that would pair well with shrimp, add them! This salad was basically shrimp, with arugula, roasted potatoes and onions. And it was delicious, the "Dressing" was basically garlic with a little lemon juice and olive oil and it paired well with all of them and the seasoning on the shrimp and potatoes when they were cooked.
Now, let's say you are vegetarian, or you just want to cut meat out for the day. One of the best tricks I have seen is to add Halloumi to a salad. Halloumi is a cheese (Goat milk, sheep milk, and sometimes cow milk), and it has a high melting point which makes it great for grilling or frying. All you have to do is pan-fry it until it gets golden and then flip it. Repeat and top your salad with it. It is very filling and makes any salad the main meal.
And finally some vegan options. Roasting Vegetables or Legumes and adding them to a salad really makes a difference! I am lactose intolerant so when I don't want cheese and I am trying to avoid meat, I roast some chickpeas or carrots and throw them into a salad. Somehow they add something to the salad and make it that much more filling.
