Double Crochet

The double crochet stitch is the next common stitch in crocheting. It is very simple to do, however, there are some differences of opinion on how it should be built. Neither is wrong it is all about preference.

This is what the double crochet looks like.

When doing a double crochet you must remember whether it is working off the chain or starting a new row you need to chain links. This is where the opinion differs. I was taught to chain two and have seen people chain two, however once I saw a website call for three chains. Either way it is up to you.

Once you have your chains, you need to yarn over and then push through the stitch hole. So this is like doing a single crochet backwards. Once you are through the loop you need to yarn over again and pull through. This should leave you with three stitches on your hook.

To finish the stitch, like the single crochet, you need to yarn over but this time you will pull through the first two stitches. This will leave you two stitches on the hook. Repeat the process and that is how to make a double crochet
