Half Double Crochet

The term Half Double Crochet sound very hard and intimidating but once you understand what a double crochet is, this stitch becomes much simpler. To refresh, a double crochet is when you yarn over and go through the stitches, yarn over again, and pull through the rest. This process is the same with the Half Double Crochet (HDC). When the stitch differs is the finishing part. In a double crochet, you would normally, yarn over and pull through the first two stitches, leaving two stitches on the hook and than yarn over again and pull through the remaining stitches. A Half Double Crochet only yarns over once and pulls through all three stitches at once.

So, the Half Double Crochet starts the same as the double crochet. You yarn over, go through the stitch and then yarn over and pull out, leaving three stitches on the hook. Once you get to this stage of the stitch they differ. To complete the Half Double Crochet, at this point, simply yarn over and pull through all three of these stitches.

This is what two rows of Half Double Crochets look like.
