Basic Theme Challenge #5 (Month Long Special!)

We are back with a MONTH LONG Basic Theme Challenge, and this month the warm weather is inspiring us to make the challenge all about Grilling. That's right, break out those Bar Be Ques because we are focusing on that this month. It has been a long winter and it is great to be outside in the sun and just enjoy some good food on the Barbie! Also, with father's day this month it turned out to be the perfect fit!

Today's challenge is very easy, it is simply cook on the BBQ! Make your favourite dish, that one that you have been waiting all summer to make on the BBQ, whether it is Hot Dogs and Hamburgers or fall off the bone Ribs, go nuts!

Today we are sharing our Rib Rub and as a bonus we are sharing our BBQ Sauce Recipe! So another pretty simple recipe it is 3-2-1. So 3 tablespoons of Brown Sugar, 2 tablespoons of Paprika, 1 tablespoon of Salt and Pepper. This is what we do for Beef Ribs. For Pork Ribs we follow a little more closely our Pulled Pork Recipe and add 1 tsp of Mustard (ground), and 1 tsp of Onion Powder (or Garlic Powder which ever you have on hand).

Now for BBQ Sauce it is kind of the same thing. You want to mimic what you have in your rub, and add more flavour to it. If you are doing Pork, again we try to stick to flavours we know we enjoy with Pork (Mustard, Garlic, Onion, etc). So we will write two recipes for both and a little more information about how to make it your own.

Rib Rub (Beef):

3 tbsp Brown Sugar

2 tbsp Paprika

1 tbsp Salt

1 tbsp Pepper

Rib Rub (Pork)

3 tbsp Brown Sugar

2 tbsp Paprika

1 tbsp Salt

1 tbsp Pepper

1 tsp Ground Mustard

1 tsp Onion Powder

BBQ Sauce (Beef)

1 1/2 cup of Brown Sugar

1 1/2 cup of Ketchup

1/2 cup of Water

1/4 cup of Steak Sauce

2 tbsp Paprika

2 tsp Salt

2 tsp Pepper

BBQ Sauce (Pork)

Add 1/4 cup of Dijon Mustard (or any Mustard you prefer)

4 cloves of Garlic (minced or grated) OR 1 Bulb of Garlic Roasted and Minced

For a more tangy recipe try adding Fish Sauce instead of Steak Sauce (or a little vinegar). For a more spicy recipe try adding Hot Sauce! And for a more Sweet recipe try adding another half a cup of brown sugar (again removing the steak sauce and replacing it with ketchup).
