Freebie Friday - V-Stitch baby Blanket!

This week for Freebie Friday I am sharing my V-Stitch Blanket pattern. I usually use this for a baby blanket, but by adding more chains and more yarn you can make this blanket any size you need/want.  

So for this blanket you can use any hook you want, I recommend a 6 mm or larger but that is up to you. Also it will take about 600 yards of yarn depending on if you alternate colours or not. I use Pipsqueak by Bernat, you can also use Tiny Tickles by Bernat, they are both fuzzy yarns. If you don't want a fuzzy blanket, Bernat Blanket works fine also. 

For this pattern, all you need to know is how to CHAIN and how to make a DOUBLE CROCHET. This pattern is kind of tricky, especially if you are using the fuzzy yarns but it is very forgiving also. 

So you'll need either 2 balls of 371 yards or 6-7 balls of 127 yards. This will vary depending on if you change colours or not. 

To start you want to chain 84 plus one (this is for a baby blanket for an adult I would suggest doubling it to 168 plus one.) 

Once you have your chain you want to work in  the second chain from the hook (or skip one chain and work in the next). Here you will place TWO double crochets (this will create the V-Stitch). Then you skip the next stitch and work into the stitch after that. You are always working two double crochets into every other stitch. (Two double crochets, skip a chain, two double crochets, skip a chain, working like this until the end.) For the last stitch of the row you want to do just one double crochet.

I can not stress how important it is to work all the way to the end of the rows. Otherwise the blanket will grow oddly and look like you missed a stitch. If you find that the double crochet is still making the blanket look or grow odd, you can replace it with a half double crochet instead. 

This is what your first row should look like. (This is Pipsqueak by Bernat). As you can see you have made holes.

This row is the hardest row of the blanket. From now on you want to place your two double crochets in these holes. The holes are spaced out enough that you don't need to skip anything just work in each hole. 

And that is about it, I usually work this blanket 50 rows for a baby, a bit more for an adult blanket. And then you just finish off like any other crochet project. But keep in mind the ends can stay in the blanket because it is fuzzy and you won't be able to see it.
